LANGUAGE

The official language of Egypt is Arabic.

CURRENCY

The currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). The symbols are LE, Eยฃ, or ยฃE.

Major credit and debit cards are accepted in the larger bars, restaurants, shops, hotels, etc. however, a majority of the transactions will be in cash so make sure to carry cash at all times with you. There are many ATMs in the larger cities, however, they will become uncommon or non-existent in the more rural areas.

How To Get There

The easiest way to get to Egypt is to fly into Cairo International Airport (CAI).

You will obtain your visa on arrival by paying $25 USD in cash when you go through customs in Egypt.

Transportation

In Cairo, the best way to get around is to use Uber. There are taxis available, however many do not have meters and it may be hard to negotiate a price or navigate to your desired location.

Outside of Cairo, Uber is not available but you can request transportation from your hotel, use taxis or organize a tour that provides transportation.

To fly from place to place in Egypt, the most common airlines include EgyptAir and NileAir. Taking buses is another option and you can use GoBus.

Climate

Egypt is mainly a desert, so expect hot temperatures during the day and cooler temperatures in the evening, with very little rainfall during the year. In the summer months (May through September), the average temperatures are 86 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (30 to 35 degrees Celsius). During the winter months (October through April), the average temperatures are 68 to 79 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 26 degrees Celsius), with evenings dropping around 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius).

When To Visit

Based on the weather, the best time to visit is October through April to avoid the extreme desert heat. December and January are considered the peak seasons so prices will most likely be higher and tourist attractions will be more crowded, while the summer months of May through September are much less crowded if you can handle the heat.

Egypt has a rich history waiting to be explored. From the iconic pyramids to the mesmerizing Nile River, this enchanting country offers a captivating blend of ancient treasures and vibrant culture.
