Springtime in Minneapolis is sometimes overlooked as we are so excited for Summer to arrive after the long Winter. However, springtime is when the city comes alive with flowers blooming, including the beautiful tulips. From the well-tended gardens of the Arboretum to a charming and unexpected residential display, here are the two best places to see tulips in Minneapolis!
The Best Places to See Tulips in Minneapolis
The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum
As one of the premier botanical gardens in the region, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a must-visit year-round, but it is specifically a haven for tulip admirers in the springtime. Located outside Minneapolis in the suburb of Chaska, this sprawling garden features over 1,200 acres of beautiful landscapes, including various gardens, tree collections, and more.
The annual tulip display at the Arboretum is spectacular! Each spring, you can wander through vibrant rows of tulips that span a rainbow of colors and varieties. The gardens are well maintained, providing a perfect backdrop for strolls and spectacular photography. With over 30,000 tulips planted annually, the Arboretumโs tulip garden is a must-see for anyone looking to immerse themselves in spring’s beauty.ย
Tip: Visit in mid to late spring to catch the blooms at their peak and purchase tickets beforehand as this is a busy time to visit. The Arboretum also hosts several spring events celebrating the season’s flowers, so check their calendar for special tulip tours and floral art shows.
Location: 3675 Arboretum Dr, Chaska, MN 55318
“The Tulip House” Near Lake of The Isles
There is a residential home near Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis that has become a local springtime sensation, affectionately known as “The Tulip House.” This private residence has a front yard garden that has an impressive display of tulips, thoughtfully arranged and tended by the homeowners, who if you are lucky will be outside and happy to discuss their garden.
Each year, the garden features an incredible array of tulip varieties, creating a colorful display. The homeowners have been planting these flowers for years, and their passion for tulips shows in the meticulous care and planning that goes into this garden.
If you are coming close by, I recommend biking to the house so you can continue around Lake of the Isles for the perfect springtime activity. Otherwise, you can drive to Isles Bun & Coffee, a local coffee shop with delicious puppy-dog tails (small, twisted versions of their classic cinnamon roll), and walk to โThe Tulip House.โ
Tip: Since this is a private residence, be respectful of the property and enjoy the view from the sidewalk or street. The best time to visit is usually late April to early May, depending on the weather.
Location: Corner of 25th and Humbolt Ave S.
Minneapolis may not be Holland, but its tulip displays are a local spring highlight! The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and โThe Tulip Houseโ are two of the best places to enjoy the spring tulips. Viewing these tulips is not only beautiful for your eyes, but also a peaceful retreat to appreciate the simpler pleasures of nature. So, when spring rolls around, don’t miss out on these blooming tulips in Minneapolis!
