Visiting The Pyramids In Egypt

Spending time visiting the Pyramids in Egypt is incredible! When you think of Egypt, you most likely picture the Pyramids of Giza but make sure to also check out the other historical sites nearby including Dahshur, Memphis, and Saqqara. The Pyramids are truly incredible, along with the history and architecture.

How To Explore the Pyramids in Egypt

To explore the Pyramids, I would recommend getting a driver and a guide. There are other Pyramids outside of Giza that are worth seeing which will require a driver for the day and there is significant history behind these historical sites so learning from a guide adds to the experience. Ask your accommodation to set up this tour or check out some options here. You will get picked up from your accommodation in the morning and transported to each location, while the guide explains the history.

The easiest options to visit the Pyramids are to stay in Cairo or Giza. I took a day trip from Cairo, which was an easy drive. If you stay in Giza, stay at the Marriott Mena House. It is a well-rated hotel and good location, as some rooms have views of the Pyramids.

About the Pyramids In Egypt

The Pyramids of Giza are the star of the show here, BUT there are other famous Pyramids nearby that are incredible as well. This itinerary will take you to Pyramids and other famous tombs or statues in Dahshur, Memphis, Saqqara, and Giza. These are all spectacular and important to the ancient history of Egypt. However, if you are short on time then I would recommend visiting Saqqara and Giza.

Dahshur

Several of the first pyramids were built here. The main pyramids you will see are the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid. The Bent Pyramid was the first attempt at building a smooth-sided pyramid and the Red Pyramid is the 3rd largest Egyptian Pyramid. You can admire both from the outside or have the option to enter if you desire.

Note: As with any entrances to Pyramids or Tombs, the passageways are narrow and may provide discomfort for some. All options to enter a Pyramid are unique experiences but can be skipped if needed.

Memphis

Memphis was the first capital city of Egypt. This is a brief stop where you will encounter remains such as pillars and statues. Additionally, you can see the Alabaster Sphinx and the Statue of Ramesses II.

Saqqara

The famous Step Pyramid of Djoser, built by Imhotep, is located in Saqqara. You have the option to go inside, although it is an additional fee. There are also other tombs located here and there is plenty of space to walk around and admire the spectacular structures.

Pyramids of Giza

In Giza, you will explore the three main Pyramids (Khufu/Great Pyramid of Giza, Khafre, and Menkaure), several other smaller Pyramids, Tombs, and the Great Sphinx. The most common options to navigate the area include walking or riding a horse or camel. If you have dreams of riding a camel in Egypt, then you can certainly opt for a tour of the Pyramids of Giza on a camel. Riding a camel here really heightens the experience! Additionally, it is a large area to explore so being able to see the Pyramids from all angles is exceptional, which can be tough while walking.

Spending time visiting the Pyramids of Giza is a must-visit, and you would learn a lot about the history if you just went there. However, the other historical sites of Dahshur, Memphis, and Saqqara are worth visiting as well. You will have an amazing experience during your time visiting the Pyramids in Egypt!
